New ZEN software (2.0.16) soon available for download.
A new version of ZEN (2.0.16) is scheduled for release on January 2nd, 2019. All mining pools, node operators, and full node wallet users must upgrade to ZEN 2.0.16 prior to block 449312, which will occur around January 18th.
ZEN 2.0.16 replaces the current version 2.0.15, which is set to deprecate (no longer run). Please note, the new version includes a mandatory network upgrade at block 455555, which will occur around January 29th. There is going to be a testnet network upgrade at block 369900 as well, expected to occur around December 29th. Pool operators are encouraged to test the mining software compatibility on testnet.
The major focus of this version is the introduction of a new shielded transaction (type: -3) that will replace the current one (type: 2). Type -3 uses a new Zero Knowledge proving system based on Groth16, that brings significant benefits compared to the current circuit, including more robustness, more speed in making the proof and verification, and reduces memory usage. This change is a first step towards supporting/integrating Sapling.
The update also modifies the block mining reward allocated to the Treasury, increasing it from 10% to 20%. This will allow the Foundation to enable sustainable & continuous operations in a negative economic conjuncture, as described HERE. The new block reward will be then split as follows:
- 10% to Secure Nodes
- 10% to Super Nodes
- 60% to Miners ...
