Miguel Palencia, our CIO (Head of Information), participated by answering questions from the community about Qtum.
Miguel Palencia: My name is Miguel Palencia, I am the CIO (Chief Information Officer) of the Qtum Foundation.
I am a systems engineer with more than a decade of experience. I have been in the blockchain industry since 2013, and I have been part of various research and development projects. Before joining Qtum, I was the CTO for VeChain.
What is the QTUM Blockchain, could you give us an introduction to the project?
Miguel Palencia: Qtum is an open-source blockchain that is fully decentralized. It was created with the goal of offering a powerful, easy-to-use, and flexible solution.
Qtum is the first blockchain in history to combine several of the most important technologies in existence:
- Qtum uses the UTXO model which was inherited from Bitcoin
- We made a modified version of the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), which took a series of important modifications to be able to work on the UTXO model
- Qtum uses Proof of stake consensus, which makes it a more eco-friendly blockchain since you do not need to consume high amounts of electricity and equipment to secure it.
Qtum is the first blockchain platform for smart contracts and Dapps capable of working with Proof of Stake and UTXO.
Qtum’s development and team are led by the Qtum Foundation.
