After the community approval of the Iris Hard fork, we are delighted to announce that the Iris final release has been published and that activation will occur at block height 441444 which will happen approximately on June 10th @ 9:11 AM CEST.

This marks a historic milestone of æternity network development since the last three scheduled hard forks, and provides the æcosystem with an amazing set of new features that can be used once the protocol update is activated at block 441444.

What makes Iris so exciting?

All the changes and improvements are documented in Github and our forum but in order to spare you digging in repositories and / or forum posts here is a brief compilation of the main improvements that Iris brings to the æternity network.

* New cryptographic primitives included in the virtual machine which allow running Zero Knowledge proofs and advanced multi-signature schemes on top of æternity.
* Contract factories and contract cloning are now possible with Sophia smart contracts increasing usability and security in general, particularly for DeFi services.
* Users can now execute transactions with a third party paying for the gas , which will result in a much smoother onboarding experience for æpp users.
* State channels now allow delegates, who protect the interest of the participants of a channel, to be modified while the channel is running. Participants can now change their delegates during the life of the state channel, with a new transaction type.
